Over time, Del Rosa has seen many Crewman. Some of those Crewmen stay to make a career out of the Forest Service, but most do a fire season or two and move on with their lives. Stater Brothers' Jack Brown spent the summers of 1957 and '58 fighting fire with Del Rosa before moving on to become the CEO of the Southern California grocery store chain. Over the last few years, Jack Brown has graciously hosted the Del Rosa Hotshots over several occasions. Earlier in 2009, Stater Brothers opened their new, gigantic and state-of-the-art distribution warehouse. The warehouse operates to manage, supply and restock all of the Stater Brothers stores in Southern California. This includes; the business headquarters, truck yard, rest point for the truck drivers, and the warehouse complex. Jack Brown invited the current Del Rosa Hotshots to talk about his time and experiences over 50 years ago and how he has carried on the traditions then on to his current position.
Also, Stater Brothers and Coca-Cola sponsored a program from their proceeds to help start the re-forestation efforts in the San Bernardino National Forest. The devastation from the Old/Grand Prix Fires of 2003 and the Butler Fires of 2007 remain visible. With the help from Stater Brothers and Coca-Cola, their efforts provided one hundred thousand trees to be replanted throughout burn areas. With the close connection between Del Rosa and Jack Brown, the Hotshots were invited to help kickstart the planting of, what hopes to be, a million trees being replanted. |
