On October 26th, 2006, the San Bernardino National Forest suffered a tremendous loss during the Esperanza Fire. Tragically, all five members of Engine 57 perished in the fire while on assignment; Captain Mark Loutzenhiser, Engineer Jess McLean, Assistant Engineer Jason McKay, Firefighter Pablo Cerda, and Firefighter Daniel Hoover-Najera. The Del Rosa Hotshots, along with the rest of the San Bernardino National Forest, attended all five funerals and the public memorial with the families of the fallen. It is important that we learn from the incident to move forward, but never forget the events of the past.

Those who have fallen will always be with us on the fireline.
